Let me begin by saying that I am not a poet. And I do know it. Just in case you want to write in and tell me! 😂 But I am participating in Beth Kempton’s Winter Writing Sanctuary, and part of the invitation for today was to write a poem. So I have. Sort of. And in the interests of being honest about the imperfections of my writing, I am sharing it with you. Here it is.
Be A Star by Sam Dounis
Are we sure that the future is written in the stars?
What about the bad stuff that happens?
I like to imagine that stars are benevolent,
Twinkling down on us, thinking kindly thoughts.
Like far away Christmas lights,
Spreading happiness and cheer,
And missed when they’re no longer there.
When the time of indulgence and sloth is over,
And responsibility and accountability is back.
But how lovely would it be,
To have the indoor twinkles all year round,
Making us happy inside, content, hopeful?
Like anything good could happen.
Imagine if you could be a star for other people?
Giving them the gift of happiness and hope.
How amazing. How lovely. How very starry.

Yes Sam, take down the Xmas decorations and string up the January fairy lights in their place! You already bring us plenty of ‘starry’ joy and I predict great things in your writing-world this year 😊
This is lovely! And very much a sentiment I want to focus on in 2025.
